Using IMAPSync for Email Transfers

Email migration is the act of moving your emails from another provider or account to OnePoundEmail. We make it simple by offering IMAPSync - a built-in tool inside your DirectAdmin control panel that handles the whole process for you.

How to Use IMAPSync in DirectAdmin

OnePoundEmail offers the IMAPSync plugin, providing a straightforward interface for email transfers with no technical knowledge required.

  1. Log in to your DirectAdmin control panel.
  2. Navigate to E-Mail Manager → IMAPSync Migrations.
  3. Click IMPORT E-MAILS.
  4. Enter the details of your source account (your old email provider):
    • IMAP server address
    • Email username and password
  5. Select your OnePoundEmail destination account details.
  6. Click START MIGRATION and wait for the transfer to complete.

Best Practices

  • Create your destination email accounts in OnePoundEmail before starting the migration.
  • Test with a small or less important mailbox first to make sure the process works smoothly.
  • Schedule the migration during low-usage times for better performance.
  • Verify your DNS settings (MX, SPF, DKIM) are correct after migration.
  • Update your email clients with your new OnePoundEmail account details once done.

Common Issues and Solutions

  • Connection Problems Check that IMAP access is enabled on your source account and that no firewall is blocking port 993.
  • Missing Emails Confirm that all folders are selected and correctly mapped before starting the transfer.
  • Authentication Errors Double-check your username and password. Many providers (Google, Apple) require an app-specific password rather than your regular login.

After Migration

  • Verify that all emails have transferred correctly by checking your folders.
  • Update your DNS records (MX, SPF, DKIM, DMARC) to point to OnePoundEmail - see the Managing DNS Records guide.
  • Keep your old email account active for a short transition period, just to be safe.
  • Update all your devices and email clients with your new OnePoundEmail account settings.
