Migrating from Outlook.com to OnePoundEmail
Overview
You can migrate emails from Outlook.com, Hotmail, or Live accounts to your OnePoundEmail mailbox using the built-in IMAPSync plugin in your DirectAdmin control panel. This guide walks you through the web-based process—no command line needed.
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Prepare Your OnePoundEmail Mailbox
Make sure you've already:
- Created the destination email account in OnePoundEmail
- Logged into DirectAdmin and confirmed it’s working
2. Enable IMAP on Outlook.com
IMAP is enabled by default for Outlook accounts, but you should double-check:
- Visit https://outlook.live.com/
- Click the gear icon → View all Outlook settings
- Go to Mail → Sync email
- Ensure IMAP is enabled
If you use 2FA, generate an app password at https://account.live.com/proofs/AppPassword
3. Log into DirectAdmin
- Access your DirectAdmin panel via your hosting account
- Go to E-Mail Manager → IMAPSync Migrations
4. Start the IMAPSync Transfer
On the IMPORT E-MAILS screen:
Source (Outlook.com):
- Host:
imap-mail.outlook.com
- Port:
993
- SSL: Enabled
- User: Your full Outlook email address (e.g.,
[email protected]
) - Password: Use your regular Outlook password or app password if 2FA is enabled
- Host:
Destination (OnePoundEmail):
- User: Your new OnePoundEmail email address
- Password: Your OnePoundEmail password
Click START MIGRATION and allow the process to complete.
Best Practices
- Start with a test migration using a smaller or less important mailbox
- Avoid syncing during high-traffic hours for better performance
- Keep the Outlook.com account active during migration
Troubleshooting Tips
Problem | Solution |
---|---|
IMAP Authentication Failed | Double-check email and password. Use app password if 2FA is on |
Connection Refused | Ensure port 993 is used and SSL is enabled |
Some Emails Missing | Retry the sync or split the sync into batches |
Post-Migration Steps
- Update your email apps with OnePoundEmail settings
- Update MX, SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records if changing your domain
- Keep your Outlook.com account live for a brief transition period
